Introducing BackupEDGE 3.0
| BackupEDGE 3.0 version 03.00.02 build 2 is available for download. | ![]() |
Additions in BackupEDGE 3.x
- MySQL™ Hot Backups. MySQL databases can now be dumped directly to the archive during a backup, without shutting down MySQL. No intermediate files need to be created.
- Blu-ray Disc drives and BD-RE 25GB and 50GB media are now supported.
- Multiple archive per medium on tape, BD-RE, DVD-RAM, DVD+RW and REV. Full support for Instant File Restore, Fast File Restore (tape), and Bare Metal Disaster Recovery is maintained.
- Time-To-Live (retention time) settable per backup with our exclusive Triplets-based Scheduler. Archives won't be over-written until TTL expires. This makes 2 week, 3 week, and a wide variety of other archive retentions available. TTL settable per line item (Triplet) beginning with 03.00.02.
- Disk-to-Anything-to-Anything (D-to-*-to-*) Scheduling. Perform a quick backup to disk, FTP, or other fast Resource, then copy to a slower Resource as time permits.
The interaction of multiple archives per medium with retention times provides great new flexibility, but different default behaviour than legacy BackupEDGE releases. Please see the new User Guide for additional information.
Major Changes Since 2.x...
- The Scheduler has been replaced by one with far more features, which will be explained in detail. A weekly backup rotation with Monday through Friday enabled is still the default behaviour, although retention times and multiple archives per medium may result in different resource utilization.
- All CD and DVD Resource Names have been changed to "optical" and combined with Blu-ray Disc support.
- The Web Services Interface has been improved. It is no longer necessary to copy files to the desktop system. Simply browse to "https://hostname:3946" and the user interface will download. Web Services still needs to be enabled manually.
- There are no more "Slotnames" used in AWS, FTP and FSP backups. Archive rotation is now controlled by Time-To-Live.
- EDGEMENU has been reorganized. Infrequently used setup menus are now consolidated in the Setup -> Configure BackupEDGE sub-menu.
